I really should have been working on the cover for Americus instead of drawing this, but you know… Sometimes a man’s gotta’ do what a man’s gotta’ do!

I plan on coloring it, but it might be awhile. Maybe when things clear up a bit work-wise for me.

Here’s how it’s going to work: Listed below are 20 pieces of original art ranging from published freelance stuff to fan art that you might’ve seen on the blog. Each piece is numbered and has a minimum bid next to the title. If you are interested in a piece, please just post a comment with the number of the piece you’re bidding on with the amount of your bid [bids have to be equal than or greater to the minimum bid listed]. At the end of the auction, I’ll check all the comments and see what the highest bid for each piece is and contact that person with an invoice to be paid via Paypal.

Shipping & handling for the pieces will be $7.00 each, which will include secure shipping [If you win more than one piece, I will combine the shipping & if you live in Portland, I will just hand deliver the piece].

For an additional $5.00, I will offer to matte the piece to fit the closest convenient frame size [in most cases this will be 14 x 17].

Auction ends the 20th! If the winning bidders want their pieces shipped before I leave for Vietnam, the money needs to be Paypaled to me by the 24th.

This line from their announcement caught my attention:

“If these people would spend even some of the energy that they spend on these comic books, reading the Bible…”

My first thought is that they would nitpick and argue about the Bible the same way they do about comics.  Who wrote the best Gospel, which apostle could beat up which apostle in a fight… that sort of thing.  This line of thinking lead to a few of ideas for comics in this vein.   Below are the couple that I was able to get done.  Behold, the horror of the nerd brain…

I’m now sort of bummed that I’ll be missing Comic-Con this year.  I’m hoping the WBC will arrive at the convention and end up facing a counter protest made up of convention-goers.  Can anyone seriously espouse that “God Hates Comic-Con!” when confronted by a horde of people dressed as elves and Stormtroopers?

I tried to think of a suitable opponent for Jarmush, and the most suitable person that came to mind was David Lynch, who occasionally styles his hair into wild, tsunami-like swoops.

I’ve also been listening to some Lyle Lovett music lately, and since Mr. Lovett has some of the best hair on the planet, I’m throwing in this bonus picture:

So this month I was doing an art challenge with Rosemary Travale – draw a character from The Adventures of Pete & Pete every day.  I made it through the first week okay, but soon after other obligations prevented me from working on the project.

Things are starting to settle down now though, and this week I’m going to try to finish up as many drawings as I can.  You can follow the progress at my livejournal or this flickr set.  Also, you can see Rosemary’s paintings here.

Anyway, we’ve decided to try something a little different this year…

During the holiday business, we realized we wouldn’t have time to do a full twelve-page calendar this year, so we decided to create a sort of demi-calendar… Three large images, with four small calendars at the bottom of each page.  This year, we decided to do illustrations based on the theme of “hard times”.

We also realized that we wouldn’t have time to make them available for mail order in time for the new year.  Instead we’re offering a pdf of the calendar that you can download and print for yourself (along with suggestions for binding the pages).  There are two versions: One that is 8.5″ x 11″, which is suitable for home printing, and one that is 11″ x 17″.  The latter is the original intended size, but you’d probably need to take the file to a print shop (unless you have a large-format printer at home).

If you download a calendar, feel free to let us know what you think of this whole setup.  Even if you don’t, feel free to post your thoughts.  As I said before, this is all new to us and we’d be interested in know folks’ opinions on the deal.

Yesterday I gave myself a challenge to draw something “wintery”, something to get the ol’ art gears spinning.  I thought of how animals were now starting to go into hibernation, which led to thoughts about furry critters, which led to ideas of sleeping and waking up, and well… to be honest, I don’t know how that all led to what I eventually drew:

I don’t know what to say.  I seem to have a knack for coming up with ideas for stupid horror movies (not to mention pieces involving rampaging groundhogs).  Though if anyone reading this wants to bankroll a Groundhog’s Day themed slasher flick, my email is always open.
