Walk down to the art store and by the equally beloved pencil-extender which allows you to nurse another 2.5" out of every pencil you own. It will grip at the eraser, so that will not be as easily accessible, but there's an incentive to make fewer mistakes. I can tell you from long hours with pencil nubs that the pencil-extender is the way to go. Then you can wonder what to do with a collection of pencil tips that look like tiny ice cream cones.
