Quick & Dirty [updated with progess!]
(Oct 23, 2009)
Both Jason I did work for the WW this week.
Like Jason mentioned before, one of the harder things to do getting news stories to illustrate is the very, very small window of time you get to illustrate them in. It’s good because it gets you to think on your toes and go with your instinct. You don’t have time to overthink or be too precious with the drawing. The bad thing is that sometimes you don’t catch things until you’re done, and there’s not much you can do. Take for example how out of proportion Portland mayor Sam Adams is to the background. That being said, I’m pretty happy with the free-hand Capitol Building.
I’ve been a bit of a lazy sod this week, but I’m hoping to catch up with it today. If I get what I want done today, I’ll update this post.
UPDATE: Ha! I just finished he first of my calendar illustrations, graphic elements and all. check it out!

Love it. What artifact/thingy is in her eye? I don’t know all the Arabian references in your stuff.
the Hav,
10/24/09 @ 5:38 pmha ha. i’m not going to embarass myself and bore everyone else here to death by explaining all the references, so i’ll send you an e-mail. they’re more dorky references than anything else.
can’t remember if we mentioned it before, but the theme we’re rolling with this year is covers for fake pulp books. there will be a little description with each illustration to supplement it.
