It’s Time For A Party
(Sep 23, 2009)
This weekend I drew an illustration for the Willamette Week. It accompanied an article about the owner of several local restaurants having a block party to celebrate three years in business (so any Portlanders looking for free food and cheap drinks, head to NE 30th and Killingsworth this Monday from 7-10pm). It was a fun assignment, and I was lucky that the editor was willing to let me go a little nuts with it.
Specifically, I was asked to have giant bits of food stand in for the the actual restaurants that are on the block. Looking at it now, I feel I could have gone further including giant food, but overall I’m pretty happy with this. Any time I get paid to draw something like a group of folks eating dinner off the tongue of a giant warthog is a good time to me!
I thought I’d also throw in this photo of the actual image. As you can see, I’m still rocking the green pencils.
I want to plug a website that just got a redesign, and that is… TEDSTEARN.COM!

Ted was one of my professors art school, and a while ago he asked me to help him with redesigning his website. I didn’t do any of the design work, rather helped translate his designs into a functioning site. Ted was one of my major mentors in school, and it was an honor to help him see this project out. If you haven’t seen his work before, I encourage you to check out the site. Besides being a great teacher, Ted is an amazing artist. When I was putting this together, I got to see a lot of his work that I was unfamiliar with, so that was a treat!
So one more time, that’s… TEDSTEARN.COM!
I’d also like to note that Ted’s recent comic Fuzz and Pluck: Splitzville, has been nominated for an Ignatz award for Outstanding Anthology or Collection. I anyone reading this is going to SPX (where the awards are held and voted for) this coming weekend, I’d encourage you to cast your ballot his way.
